DELPHIC - ACOLYTE

Quello dei mancuniani Delphic è uno debutti più attesi di questo inizio 2010. E’ infatti da almeno sei mesi che l’hype intorno a questa band continua a salire, grazie soprattutto alla particolarità dei loro video e al continuo inserimento in elenchi e classifiche sulle next big thing dell’anno appena cominciato.
Come si intuisce notando l’etichetta di distribuzione del disco, la francese Kitsunè, il gruppo fa dell’elettronica il suo cavallo di battaglia. Fin dal primo pezzo di questo LP, Clarion call, si ergono sfumature sonore che rimandano ai conterranei New Order, anche se senza i picchi qualitativi che caratterizzano molti pezzi della premiata ditta Sumner-Morris-Hook.
La seconda e la terza traccia sono due dei singoli estratti da questo disco. Doubt trapunta su una linea melodica dal sapore eighties un cantato in tipico stile Klaxons. This Momentary è un continuo crescendo ipnotico, ed è conosciuta ai più per l’inserimento in una delle ultime compilation della Kitsunè e per un video musicale, girato a Chernobyl, incredibilmente suggestivo.
Red Lights ci regala un intro che potrebbe ricordare ai più il primo Calvin Harris, ma poi ci stupisce diventando un viaggio elettronico dove le influenze Kraftwerkiane si fanno sempre più palesi. Acolyte, la title track, accentua gli omaggi al gruppo di Dusseldorf. Sono più di otto minuti di follia elettronica e celano il vero manifesto di intenti musicali di questi Delphic. Era forse dai tempi della stupenda La femme d’argent degli Air che non sentivo un tappeto di algidi suoni sintetizzati così convincente. Halcyon è l’ultimo singolo pubblicato, ed è a mio parere il brano più facilmente assimilabile del disco. Potrebbe tranquillamente essere uno dei pezzi meno ispirati di Power, Corruption & Lies dei New Order. Submission ha un inserto chitarristico che rende il pezzo oltremodo godibile. Counterpoint riprende musicalmente i canoni stilistici della title track, ma è più fruibile e avvolgente. La qualità degli ultimi due pezzi è parzialmente inferiore, ma non riesce tuttavia a rovinare l’atmosfera trasognante che regala questo disco. Un album che, nonostante non sia un capolavoro e abbia poco al suo interno di veramente personale e originale, non delude le aspettative create. Gli amanti dell’elettronica e della sperimentazione si ritroveranno ad ascoltarlo e riascoltarlo. 8



Acolyte was one of the most anticipated debuts of this start of 2010. It's been at least six months that the hype around this band continues to rise, mainly due to the peculiarity of their videos and the continued inclusion on lists and charts on the next big thing of the year just begun.
Since chosing the label distribution of the LP, the French Kitsuné, the group makes its electronics workhorse. From the first track of this record, Clarion Call, stand subtleties of sound are reminiscent of fellow New Order, although there are no peaks that characterize many quality songs of Award Winning Sumner-Morris-Hook.
The second and third track are two of the singles from this album. Doubt quilt on a 80's melodic line sung in Klaxons style. This Momentary is a continuous increasing hypnotic, and is known to most people for inclusion in one of the latest Kitsune compilation and a music video, filmed in Chernobyl, incredibly fascinating.
Red Lights gives us an intro that could remind more of the first Calvin Harris, but then surprises us by becoming a trip where the Kraftwerkian electronic influences are becoming increasingly obvious. Acolyte, the title track, emphasizes the homage to the group of Dusseldorf. More than eight minutes of electronic madness, this conceal the true manifest of musical intent of Delphic. It's since the times of the wonderful La femme d'argent by Air that I had not heard of a carpet of algid synthesized sounds so convincing. Halcyon is the last single released, and it is in my opinion the track more easy listening in the disc. Could well be one of the less inspired songs of Power, Corruption & Lies by New Order. Submission has a guitar riff that makes the track extremely enjoyable. Counterpoint resume musically stylistic canons of the title track, but it is more immersive. The quality of the last two songs is partially inferior, but not succeed in ruining the dreamy atmosphere that gives this record. An album that, although not a masterpiece and not really personal and original, does not disappoint the expectations raised. Lovers of electronic music and experimentation will meet to hear and listen to it. 8
