BLOOD RED SHOES - LIGHT IT UP

Eccoci giunti finalmente a parlare del nuovo singolo dei Blood Red Shoes, Light It Up, in uscita il 22 di questo mese e secondo estratto dal loro nuovo album in uscita a marzo.
La band di Brighton, composta solamente da due elementi, è balzata agli onori della cronaca grazie a un primo disco molto valido (uscito un paio di anni fa) accompagnato da diversi singoloni.
La ricetta della loro musica si rivela sempre la stessa. Light It Up è un pezzo veloce, dalla batteria martellante e preminente, che come i brani dell’esordio non fa breccia subito ma cresce ad ogni ascolto.
La formazione a là White Stripes, ma a ruoli scambiati, è rimasta anch’essa intatta: le parti cantate sono intonate da entrambi i componenti, Steven e Laura-Mary, che si alternano a seconda delle esigenze del brano.
La chitarra di lei dona alla canzone il sapore punk-garage che già si respirava, ad esempio, in una It’s Getting boring by the sea, anche se qui è il gruppo di versi è uno dei più melodici partoriti dal duo.
A detta dello stesso Steven, il pezzo è caratterizzato da un forte ritmo nelle strofe: un crescendo che tocca il suo culmine nella rabbia del caotico ritornello, formula che rimanda a certi pezzi dei primi Pixies.
Il video, da parte sua, trasmette bene questa sensazione di tensione esplosiva tra immagini di torce e foreste notturne.



I cambi di tempo del singolo si rivelano repentini come quelli dei loro brani migliori, anche se non ci troviamo di fronte a un pezzo da novanta come poteva essere la I Wish I Was Someone Better del primo disco.



Here we are finally talking about the new single by Blood Red Shoes, Light It Up, out this month and the second extract from their new album coming out in March.
The band from Brighton, composed of only two members, jumped to hit the headlines thanks to a very good first album (released a couple of years ago) accompanied by several singles.
The recipe of their music proves to be the same. Light It Up is a bit fast, the drums pounding and prominent, and as the songs of onset does not breach immediately but grows with each listen.
Their formation, similar to the White Stripes, but with swapped roles, has also remained intact: the vocal parts are sung by both components, Steven and Laura-Mary, which alternate depending on the needs of the song.
The guitar gives the song her taste punk-garage which had already started, for example, in a It's Getting Boring by the sea, but here the group of verses is one of the most melodic born from the duo.
According to the same Steven, the piece is characterized by a strong groove in the verses, a crescendo that reaches its culmination in the chaotic fury of the chorus, a formula that refers to certain parts of the early Pixies.
The video, for its part, transmits the feeling of good explosive tension between images of torches and forests at night.

Sreong changes of rhythm are revealed as in their best songs, even though we are not faced with a bigwig as could be the I Wish I Was Someone Better from the first record.
